What is ecotherapy?
Ecotherapy, also known as Walk and Talk Therapy, is simply psychotherapy that is held outdoors, or with nature in mind. The benefits are endless, but to name a few...
-
Ecotherapy allows clients to move their bodies which has been shown to improve moods by releasing endorphins1
-
Ecotherapy is less awkward for clients who do not like to make eye contact when speaking about themselves, and allows them to be vulnerable with a therapist more easily.
-
Research shows that fresh air, the smells of soil, being around trees, and noticing changes in nature, all hold incredible benefit for our physical and mental health.2,3
-
Walking outdoors is in itself therapeutic.4
-
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic threatening our ability to be in person indoors, ecotherapy is a low-risk way to have therapy in person.
How do i know if this is right for me?
Perhaps your answers to these questions will help you decide:

-
Do you enjoy walking and talking more than sitting across from someone?
-
Do you wish you were able to get outside more often, for exercise or just fresh air?
-
Have you been feeling anxious, depressed, or stressed more often than not?
-
Would you like to feel more connected to nature, the changing seasons, and your natural surroundings?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, keep reading!
What if it is raining or snowing?
We will connect the morning of our session if the weather is not ideal for walking, and you can always decide to meet over Zoom instead. It is up to the client and I am up for anything - wind, rain, or snow!
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance for ecotherapy. I will provide you with invoices (aka Superbills) that you can submit to your insurance provider for full or partial reimbursement, depending on your coverage. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network mental health care benefits. Contact your insurance provider to request specific information about your plan’s coverage, including their out of network benefits and if you have a deductible.
If you are interested in virtual sessions, I am a member of Hello Alma and accept Cigna, Optum and Aetna. Learn more here.
who can benefit from ecotherapy?
Anyone and everyone. The healing properties of therapy in nature are beneficial to all ages.
can my baby or child come with me?
Yes! I am a trained nature childhood educator and am happy to incorporate activities to keep your baby or toddler engaged while we walk or sit in a park.
what if i have a physical limitation?
Ecotherapy is about being outdoors, connecting with nature and ourselves, and can even be done indoors, through telehealth. If we are outdoors, walking is optional. We can also sit on a bench.
where will we meet?
This is entirely up to you. I can suggest local public parks and walking paths, but if you have a favorite place you want to go, or if you like to explore new trails each session, that is great!
